Hans Marsen (1943 – 2017)
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of our Board of Directors, Hans Marsen, who also served two terms as HMH Auxiliary President.
Hans was a fixture across Hardin Memorial Health since he and his wife Gloria moved to Elizabethtown in 2006. His experience with HMH began as a patient. This positive encounter inspired Hans to join the HMH Auxiliary where he led the Auxiliary as a two-term president. In addition, he volunteered in the Gift Shop, the information desk and managed the Auxiliary website. As Auxiliary President Hans advocated for the volunteers, recognized their contributions to the healthcare system and worked to grow the Auxiliary.
In his Auxiliary President capacity, Hans also was proud to serve on the HMH Foundation Board of Directors. During his time on the Foundation Board, he and his wife made a personal financial commitment and he championed increased support from the Auxiliary.
But perhaps the role Hans was best known for was that of unofficial HMH photographer. Hans was passionate about documenting the happenings and progress at HMH and captured catalogs of photos of Auxiliary and HMH events, construction, aerial photos of the campus, landscapes and more.
Hans was known simultaneously for his dedication, passion and devotion to community service. His legacy will continue in the strong team of officers he recruited to lead the Auxiliary, including Vice-President Pat Howell, who will now step into the president position.
Hans was a wonderful asset and supporter of HMH and he truly will be missed.
More information on memorial services is forthcoming.
