On April 25, 2019, HMH Foundation hosted the fourth annual Purses, Pumps and Prevention, a cancer awareness social benefitting HMH Cancer Care. Participants enjoyed a beautiful dinner and fashion show featuring ten local boutiques and their beautiful fashion. But more importantly, the fashion show featured the stories of HMH Cancer Care patients including Laura Hay that was highlighted in the News-Enterprise.
She was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in October 2017 at 38 years old. The diagnosis came after she felt something on her breast. Her gynecologist referred her to HMH Women’s Imaging. Following a 3D mammogram and biopsy, the Multi-disciplinary Breast Cancer team diagnosed and initiated Laura’s treatment within a week.
In April 2018, Laura had a double mastectomy, followed by 26 rounds of radiation. She is currently seeing HMH Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Ashley Kerekes, M.D. and anticipates her reconstruction surgery will be completed this summer.
Proceeds from the fourth annual Purses, Pumps and Prevention event will help HMH purchase prosthetic breast form samples and a display, allowing breast cancer patients to be fitted and cared for close to home.
