Tails & Ta-Tas breast cancer awareness 5K run/walk organizers on Tuesday presented the Hardin Memorial Health Foundation with a check for more than $11,000.
Despite having to go virtual this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the race brought in $11,923.03 to be donated to the Baptist Health Hardin Cancer Care Center.
Beth Mather, one of the event organizers, said the amount of money raised was impressive considering the affect COVID has had on the local community and businesses.
“It’s just been phenomenal the outpouring of the community,” she said.
During the check presentation, Baptist Health Hardin Vice President and Chief Marketing and Development Officer Tracee Troutt thanked those involved with the run and fundraising for the donation. She said they were humbled last year for the support and noted the difference the group made for cancer patients.
“To come back again with everything going on … and raise even more money for cancer patients, it’s just beyond all of our expectations,” she said.
Mather encouraged people to watch for the race next year. The event, presented by Atria Senior Living, will be entering its fifth year. Engage Life Director Jamie Neaderhiser was optimistic with 2021’s fundraising goal, setting it at $15,000.
The event was created to help bring awareness to breast cancer, to educate and give women hope by talking to survivors and enjoying the day with their families and pets. Although the run/walk is centered on breast cancer, the proceeds help those affected by all types of cancer.
