Babies born earlier in Hardin and surrounding counties can now remain close to home.
Officials with Hardin Memorial Health celebrated a milestone Tuesday for its updated and improved neo-natal intensive care unit.
The Centerstage Dancers kicked off the one-year anniversary of central Kentucky’s only level two NICU.
That designation means in the past year more than 160 babies born early or with complications received immediate attention in Elizabethtown and didn’t have to travel to Louisville for specialized care.
“In the last couple of years the grants from the Crusade in excess of $400,000 have gone a long way toward making this a reality,” Joe Prather, Hardin Memorial Health Foundation Chair, said.
That funding from the WHAS Crusade for Children combined with funding from Kosair Charities and the Kentucky Colonels are helping the youngest patients to receive state of the art care quickly while remaining close to their families.
