Dr. Robert E. Robbins is a retired board-certified surgeon, former chief of surgery and chief of staff at HMH. He obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky and his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Cincinnati. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Louisville Hospital Group.
With nearly 50 years of service to HMH, he’ll tell you that his heart belongs to HMH because that’s where he met, fell in love with and married his wife Rita.
“My wife worked there too. She loves HMH as much as I do. It made perfect sense to get married in the hospital chapel,” said Dr. Robbins.
Dr. Robbins often remarks on the tremendous growth at HMH over the years and says it is poised for even greater potential. That’s why he chose to serve on the HMH Foundation Board.
“I always thought HMH could be another Mayo Clinic. With the right doctors, the right equipment and the citizenry of the region behind you, there are all kinds of miracles that can happen. HMH is now a Regional Medical Center and with the membership of the Foundation being comprised of multi-county civic leaders, the miracle I dreamed of, is a step closer to being a reality,” he said.
Dr. Robbins was the founder and President of Surgical Specialists, an eleven man multi-specialty surgical group at HMH. In addition to his career in medicine, Dr. Robbins is also an accomplished businessman. He is the principal investor, co-founder and chairman of AISA, a venture capital and registered financial advisory firm. A successful venture capitalist and angel investor, he is invested in many start-up and early-stage companies including WindEnergy, 3-DRs, NueroNetrix and ZirMed Inc., where he served as chairman of the board from 2004 until 2009. Dr. Robbins also founded and was chairman of the board of the Kentucky Neighborhood Bank, a community bank based in Elizabethtown.
