John DuPlessis and his wife, Kitty, have called Elizabethtown home for more than 50 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering and then a Master of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
His successful career in engineering started as a metallurgist at what is now Teledyne Metals. He went on to hold numerous positions, including President for almost a decade, at Crucible Materials Corporation, Magnetics Division. Upon his retirement from Crucible, John formed a consulting company and continued to work on magnet technologies and patents and on construction projects.
The devoted father of five, grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of two, John believes in giving back and leaving a legacy. That includes the legacy of quality comprehensive healthcare. That’s why he’s chosen to serve on the HMH Foundation Board.
“This Foundation can take HMH to an even higher level of care,” he said. “HMH is essential to this region.”
John’s connection to HMH is multigenerational from the birth of his youngest son to his two great-grandchildren. Plus, one of his granddaughters is an HMH Physician Assistant.
In addition to his service with the HMH Foundation, John is an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Hardin County and the WaterStep Project in Louisville, a non-profit that designs water purification systems for underdeveloped countries. He also lends his expertise to local charities including Clarity Solutions for Women.
