2016 was an incredible year for the Hardin Memorial Health Foundation. Our exceptional board led efforts to strengthen HMH and fund breakthrough initiatives for our growing healthcare system. Here is a look back at some of the highlights.
- Tim and Carolyn Hornback presented $27,000 to the HMH Foundation designated for Cancer Care. Proceeds from the 5th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Truck and Tractor Pull made this gift possible. Thank you to all who gave.
- HMHF received a $110,000 Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant from the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet to expand HMH’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program. HMH is one of only four hospitals in Kentucky with a SANE program and the only hospital with a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
- Lori Masterson, co-founder of the Backyard Classic, an Elizabethtown long-distance race, donated funds from the race to HMHF for HMH Cancer Care. Masterson is a cancer survivor and grateful HMH patient.
- HMHF hosted Celebrate What’s New. At our annual event, we welcomed 11 new providers to the HMH Medical Group; took a tour of our growing Emergency Department; and enjoyed samples from our new caterer, Morrison Healthcare.
- HMHF received a grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels to purchase the Solo-Step Overhead Harness and Track System. This important therapy and rehab tool allows HMH providers to work securely and one-on-one with patients to improve mobility in a safe and secure environment.
- HMHF leaders hosted a special birthday party to mark the one-year anniversary of Central Kentucky’s only Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Babies cared for in the NICU’s first year, and their families, joined HMH caregivers, HMH leaders and HMHF donors for the celebration.
- Kosair Charities presented a $200,000 gift for the HMH NICU, the only Level II NICU in Central Kentucky. The grant is the first ever awarded by Kosair Charities in support of HMH. Special thanks to two local civic organizations, the Knights of Columbus 1455 and the Riasok Shrine Club, for their long-standing support to Kosair Charities and their willingness to shine a spotlight on the needs of the HMH NICU.
- HMHF received a $90,000 grant from the WHAS Crusade for Children to purchase vital concussion management equipment for HMH Therapy and Sports Medicine and more than $66,000 to further equip HMH’s Level II NICU.
- HMHF received its first national grant from Brave Beginnings for the HMH Level II NICU. The $50,000 gift is the first Brave Beginnings grant to any Kentucky hospital or foundation.
- At just 29-weeks, the HMH NICU welcomed Lillian Peters, the youngest gestational baby ever cared for at HMH. She is now a thriving and healthy eight-month old.
- The Foundation presented Sierra Holt, an HMH employee, with the 2016 Litzenberger Scholarship to continue her nursing education. The scholarship honors the late Dr. W.A. Litzenberger, a former practicing physician at HMH, and is an example of how to make a lasting donation to the Foundation.
- First Citizens Bank presented the first HMHF donation of 2016.
